I'm off to the Jerry Robinson memorial. Normally I don't take any time off during the day, but this was pretty important. To comics, to Batman and to me. I supplied a wonderful piece of art to help Jerry Robinson when he was sick. And I just want to say that we live in such a fantastic time, where science and medicine are allowing people to live longer and longer. Everyone should have the chance to get the very best medical care available. You've surely heard about the Gary Friedrich auction which will be a great place to get some terrific art and help a guy in need. Here's the letter I wrote on my own page and has appeared all over.

A letter From Neal Adams
Dear Comic Creator,

I'm calling you with regard to Gary Friedrich and the auction we are arranging for his benefit. If you wish to send a piece of artwork to be auctioned, you can send it to Continuity Studios. The address is as follows:

Gary Friedrich Auction
c/o.Continuity Studios
15 W. 39th Street
9th Floor
New York, NY 10017

If you would just simply wish to make a donation to Gary's benefit, go to

Now that's said, I'll get off my soapbox and get to the stuff you care about.

Next week - Batman: Odyssey Volume2 #5 ships next week. We're gettin' down to the big finish and I'm super-excited. Lots of great art and story in this issue and it leads right into the Kevin Nowlan-inked issue and then...the final issue. Written, penciled and inked by yours truly. Check out the art I've posted and I hope you tell your friends about this series.

I just handed in Chapter 8 of Blood to Dark Horse Presents and this one is great! Goooood story and new characters and a new direction. The preview is over - now it's time for the REAL story!

HELLO Mr Adams. welcome to deviantart ~i first want to say that i have been/am a huge fan of your work and follow/ed your books and career since a child. a huge fan; so much so that when i was about 13-14 i saw you at an orange county comic convention and i asked for your opinion on my portfolio. :)

you said " really dont want me to look at your book, ill hurt your feelings..."or something to that effect. i insisted and within minutes you had about 50 people tearing me a new asshole "constructively" and probably were more polite then you wanted to be, but i assume since i was so young you were being thoughtful, yet tough. the whole experience molded me and my work TO THIS DAY. thank YOU for your candid and honest crit ~ at the time it was quite dramatic, since you allowed the crowd to participate in the longest 15 minutes of my life. hahahah i was a bit discouraged towards the end until you said "see me again in 6 months... if your better." well its been about 20+ years maybe more ??? i did not give up and you are partly the inspiration for my short stint in the industry in the early 90s + i recently graduated with an mfa degree in graphic design and teach full time at an art institute here in oc. I feel i am returning the favor by giving similar advice to future illustrators and designers ~ thank you very much

on a side note i have been collecting books you've illustrated since then and feel there are no better representation of "comic books" then your work in the 70's. since you were so frank with me regarding my work i wanted to be frank about your new work. I dont know why but the new stuff is just different? no disrespect and not less then, just like its rushed or ? i dont know why or what it is exactly that makes it different... ( besides digital, but it appears you have always been computer savvy having seen your studio page ads every year in the annual illustration workbooks.) i want to say, the inking, or the coloring could be the part that seems different to me but looking at some of your new pencils they seem very familiar to me? so again, i dont think its the work unless your not penciling the panels, & handing them loosely off to finishers? i dont know what it is and only speculate. maybe its exactly the same as before, maybe its me? Just my opinion.

THANK YOU sincerely
